First cold?

I think my four week old has a cold. He’s super congested. It’s making me feel awful especially because I’m breastfeeding and I’ve always thought they received antibodies. How could he get sick so early?! 😞 I’m hoping it goes away quickly.

It's completely normal for newborn to be congested and not be sick. They're getting used to all the things in the air. My pediatrician said it could last a few months.nasal saline and a booger sucker work wonders

They do receive antibodies if you breastfeed. Congestion is normal in a newborn. My daughter gets congested when I feed her if she’s laying down (which is how she eats at night because we dream feed). She also was congested before I found out she had an intolerance to dairy. I cut it out of my diet and it went away, and after a while I was able to slowly introduce it back and she’s done fine since.

He’s most likely not sick. My son sounded so congested for the first few weeks of his life. Unless they have a temp above 100.4, they don’t need to see the doctor, that just exposes them to other germs. Saline and a suction bulb a few times a day, run a humidifier, or run the shower and sit in the bathroom to help open them up.

Nose frida, Saline drops for nose and briar rose (if you like the natural route). Also, you can get cough syrup from walmart or target if the baby is 2months plus.

That's normal since he's still acclimating to being outside of the womb and it's allergy season. Just use a humidifier and use a bulb syringe to suck out what boogers/snot you can. Warm lavender baths seemed to help my baby when he was congested as well.

Try running a humidifier as well when he sleeps. That should help.
