Bumper pads?!

I haven’t had a baby in 8 years.. are bumper pads still ok to use? I’ve heard both sides..

No, they’re a suffocation hazard. The only thing that should be in the crib is a sheet.

Bumpers originated when the slats in a crib were far enough apart that baby’s head could get stuck. Now that crib slats are closer together, bumpers (even mesh ones) are unsafe and are not needed.

We used the mesh bumpers when my daughter turned about 9 months because she would literally crawl around in her sleep and get her legs stuck in the slats. I wouldn’t do it before then though.

I use a mesh bumper. Mostly because my daughter has a hemangioma on her head and using that just makes me a little more comfortable if she might hit her head on one of the slats. Mesh bumper are safe to use because they are breathable

Mesh are safe to use if your worried about baby getting an arm or leg stuck. But the slats are close together so they definitely can’t get a head stuck lol. But other than that, only a sheet in the crib. No blankets/pillows/bears.

We used a mesh one with our baby. She would roll and put her legs through the bars and freak out! We didnt have a problem at all with it.
