Painful braxton hicks, a bad sign?

Last night I had what I think were my first baxton hicks contractions. It was a cramp of what felt like my entire stomach that would gradually increase and then decrease but it hurt really bad. I only had 4 and they were pretty close together. Also I was in bed at the time.
Does that sound normal or should I call the next time it happens?

I would only call if they last for an hour. But let your OB know next time you see them. It does just sound like Braxton Hicks.

I have very painful Hicks as well, but I haven’t experienced them that close together. Mine are random and throughout the day. They’ve been getting more intense over time. I called labor and delivery and they told me not to come in unless they increase to more than four times within an hour. So, based off of what they told me I guess my advice is to either go in and get checked, or chug a lot of water and wait and see if it continues and/or becomes regular. L&D  also told me to lay down and drink more water and see what happened. Turns out I needed some water because it got better after that.

Call if...
They get closer together, you keep having them for over an hour, if they get more painful... 
Especially if this is your first pregnancy, they shouldn't really hurt but feel more like tightening/tensing 
But really, if you get nervous, just give them a call. Obgyn nurses deal with paranoid pregos all the time and would rather you come in and get checked and leave feeling silly then have an actual issue and not get it checked out♡
