Hello. These are not recommended by doctors and are even banned in some European countries due to safety concerns. They also don’t tell you anything useful really as you cannot rely on thinking you can hear the heartbeat as a sign that all is well and they do also create a lot of anxiety if you can’t locate it. For this reason I stay well clear of them. They use the same technology as ultrasound which should only be used by someone who is fully trained and you should have the minimum amounts of ultrasound that you need in a pregnancy and not expose the foetus to extra unnecessary ones as research has shown that the waves do heat the foetus. They’re considered perfectly safe and a good thing to have done twice routinely only in pregnancy and then also any other times if there are concerns but not any more than that so it’s possibly putting your baby at risk by using a Doppler at home. It’s also really hard to work out what you’re listening to as many people are really listening to their own heartbeat or the placenta pulse as it takes some experience and training to be able to tell the subtle differences between them. All in all, they’re at best a waste of time and money creating false reassurance and anxiety and at worse, perhaps not that safe. If you have any concerns, always see a medical professional rather than try to check something yourself :) x

I got mine from Amazon. I love it. Gives me a lot of peace of mind and comfort. As long as you are sensible and know it's not a diagnostic tool, for example if you are experiencing reduced movement but hear a heartbeat on the Doppler doesn't mean baby is ok, you still need to get checked out as you can hear a heartbeat even if baby is in distress. Like wise of you can't find the heartbeat doesn't mean something is wrong, even professionals struggle sometimes to pick it up so don't worry if this happens.

Got mine for $50 ish online but dont recall the site...it is a sonoline. For me, having as many angel babies (2) as I have rainbows (11 year old daughter, son due in may) it gives me peace of mind.
