Confused?

Question

Hi ladies, slightly confused. 
I’ve seen a lot of women getting checks to see whether they’re dilated or effaced etc. Also the strep B test. 
I am currently 36+5. Had my midwife appointment she’s not mentioned anything regarding the test or checking me for dilation. She did do my birth plan with me today. 
Anyhow, I do have an hospital appointment every two weeks for a US and then follow up with a doctor due to being high risk. I’m I safe to assume something will come up then? My next appointment is 30th April. 
I am a FTM so all this is fairly new I am from the UK as I’m aware a lot of women on here are from all over world.

It’s doesn’t seem to be something they do here in the UK. I’ve never had my cervix checked or the Strep B test as seems to be routine in America x

I’m in the US but my midwife won’t be checking me at my 36 week appt on Monday. As previous poster said, it introduces bacteria to the area. I also feel like it won’t really tell you much at this stage, since you can be dilated for several weeks with nothing happening.

In the US it honestly depends on your provider. Midwives are less likely to do cervical checks, OBs will almost always do them. They’re not necessary as they are generally uncomfortable, introduce bacteria, risk premature rupture of membranes, and tell you nothing about when labor will begin. I did get GBS tested though and I think that’s pretty standard here.

I would definitely ask about the gbs test. As for dilation I got checked for the first time today at 37 weeks only because I’m being induced. I think it depends on your dr when they start those.

I’m in NZ and i didnt get my first cervical check til i was in active labour at 41 weeks haha. Im expecting it will be the same this time around. Interesting how different things are in different countries

They do the GBS test around 36 weeks at my OB office, and don’t do cervical checks until 38 weeks unless you have symptoms. I was checked at 35 at the hospital when I was sick, then at 36 when I followed up at my OB.

I'm in the US & cervix checks in my area start at 35 weeks & every week after that. I also got my group b swab done at 35 weeks. I would assume your high risk doctor will be checking you. If not I would totally ask.

I’m in the US and my OB said she doesn’t need to do checks until closer to 40 weeks but she would start doing them if I was curious at 36 weeks so that’s why I’ve had it done (bc I’m very curious)

Mine hasn’t done anything with those things either, I JUST took the strep b test today. Asnim at my 37 week appt. (im 37 weeks officially tomorrow). 
My midwife won’t check my cervix til I’m 38 weeks and we will do a stretch and sweep at that appt too. Which will be April 25th. Praying it gets things moving!
