Metformin + PCOS

I was diagnosed with PCOS last year. To treat it I was prescribed metformin and I absolutely hate how it makes me go to the bathroom ALL the time. Anyways I’ve stopped taking it and noticed my symptoms have gotten worse. I plan on starting back tomorrow, but I wanted to know if metformin helps with the symptoms? Does it stop the facial hair growth? Also I’ve noticed my hair started thinning a bit, does the metformin help to stop this too?
