Bottle Recommendations for EBF Baby 🍼
So, I’m a FTM and my LO is EBF, mostly on the breast but occasionally via bottle... which lately she has been rejecting. She loves the real thing... haha... which is fine by me and thankfully I’ve been on extended maternity leave, but I will eventually return to work and I don’t want there to be feeding issues...
We first introduced bottle around 7 weeks .. which we didn’t get to slowly introduce the way I desired, instead I was hospitalized for dehydration and daddy and her had to basically “wing it” with my frozen stash (thank god I had it). But she took it and did ok and I when I came home I went back to breast only to stimulate my supply.
So currently I’m not sure if we still need to find a bottle nipple/brand she prefers, or if it’s just simply a breast preference thing? Lately she’ll start to chew the nipple and just get pissed 😅, which I don’t like her doing because afterwards she’s occasionally bit me .. which she never did before!)
Any suggestions on having her take bottle better? Different brand? Introduce a bottle feed daily? Right now, it’s rare (bottle)... if we’re out and about (rare, bc we don’t have a car rn), or if my supply is low and she’s not getting enough.. then I’ll give her a bottle to satisfy her tummy and give myself a chance to produce more. I talked with my husband about possibly having him feed her a bottle in the evening as part of her bedtime routine, then capping her off with mommy in the bedroom... to both integrate him into the routine more and also practice bottle feeding and get her comfortable with it by the time I go to work.
We’ve been using a Nuk bottle, mostly because she also has a Nuk pacifier so I wanted it to be consistent, (she also is not too fond of pacifier, which is ok by me.. she’s a typically quiet baby, I just keep it around to soothe if I can’t nurse right away) AND it’s on the smaller oz side.
I also thought I read somewhere that Nuk more closely imitated a real nipple, based on its shape in the mouth?
We do have a Dr. Brown bottle that is larger, at 12 oz, I think. I tried it a few times around 2 mo and it just seemed large and at the time she seemed to prefer the Nuk anyway. So it’s been more recently that she’s completely rejecting it... I felt like earlier she would at least try for longer duration and eventually drink from it, but now she’s like “this is a trick!” 😅
I’m back to work either next weekend or weekend after for 5 hr shift ... (I’m returning to my second job, pt time on Sat only... full time job will be returning in June)... but I’m worried about her giving hubby a hard time feeding her via bottle 😕
Any tips and suggestions highly appreciated! Thank you in advance 😃
