39 weeks and 4 days baby boy finally arrives

Tamyra

My delivery story. At 39 weeks and 3 days I went to my dr appointment for a regular check up at 12:30. Dr did a cervix check told me It’s finally soft all the other times it’s been hard. So she did a membrane sweep and opened me up at 2 cm. I was so grateful for that I was so over being pregnant and just wanted my baby in my arms. On the drive home I was already feeling contractions almost right away. They were painful but I though it was due to the membrane sweep and I was just feeling the aches and pains of that. About 2 hours later of being at home, bouncing on my yoga ball and drinking so much water, I finally decided that these were the real contractions and I went to L&D. Told my family to take their time since my water didn’t break and I did not want to get sent back home. Took about 40 minutes to get to L&D. Got checked in right away. Hooked me up to the monitors and I could see how high my contractions were getting and I was pretty proud of my tolerance so far. The nurses finally came in and checked to see if I had dilated any more. If I didn’t I was going to be sent back home. But she checked and I was barely to a 3 thank goodness! So before they gave me anything they told me to walk for about an hour to get my body to open up as much as possible before I got the epidural. The contractions still weren’t that bad. Once the hour was over I asked for the epidural right away just out of fear of the pain that was about to come with me being barely at a 3. Getting the epidural for me was the most painful and scariest process of my whole delivery. I think that might be due to me being afraid of needles. Once I got my epidural, they put in a catheter, and hooked me up on an IV. After all that they checked my cervix I was barely at 3 1/2. By this time it’s around 9 pm. At this point I believed I was going to take days. They hooked me up to Pitocin to speed up the process. At this point from the waist down I was completely paralyzed. The nurses and my husband had to move my legs for me so my legs were constantly getting circulation. At around 3 am nurses checked me again and I was at 7 cm. At 9 am the next day I was 100% at 10cm and water had still not ruptured at this point so the dr had to manually break my water. Once they did that 20 minutes later my son was born. The dr that delivered my baby was so amazing she let my husband deliver my baby once he was head out, he was able to pull him out and then cut the cord. Weighing 5lbs 11oz at 18 1/2 inches long. And born at 10:01 am on April 16 2019. My due date was April 19th.
