Anyone live in Detroit area?

Me and hubby are taking a trip in July to the Mopop festival. Basically I know Detroit has a bad reputation and I’m not sure if that still applies as I’ve heard it’s gotten a lot better. If anyone can tell me which areas would be good to stay in or avoid I’d love to get your insight! Thanks in advance

The festival is on river walk so stay downtown.  That’s where all the activities are.  You will love it.  It’s very safe.  Stay downtown or midtown, but expensive but you can take train down to festival.  I would not recommend staying in suburbs where u have to drive down n find parking

I used to live in the metro Detroit area. Honestly it isn't as bad as people make it out to be. If you stay in the downtown area or areas close to Ferndale, Corktown, and Midtown. You'll be able to tell from the looks of the area if you should stop to get gas or interact with the people around you. Anywhere near the festival is just fine too.
