Should babysitters clean the house too??

I recently found a mom blog that says she expects her babysitters to not only clean up any messes that the kids make while the babysitter is there (totally understandable) but that she also expects the babysitter to clean any dishes that were there when she arrived, empty the dishwasher and just overall clean the house if the kids are asleep at any time that the babysitter is there. Is this a fair/routine expectation?? Should the babysitter also double as a housekeeper? Have I been babysitting wrong all of these years? 😂

No, i never did that when i was babysitting and I wouldn’t expect anyone who babysits for me to do it either (i mean if they wanted to do it then I wouldn’t stop them)

Those kind of terms should be discussed pre-hire. The family should have suggested they would appreciate light housekeeping, and it should be paid for.

It’s definitely something that should be worked out ahead of time, and the pay would probably (or at least should) reflect that. I used to babysit for my sister when I was younger, and even for her friends sometimes, and I always picked up a little extra or cleaned when I could, but that’s mostly just me being OCD with messy houses 😂

Possibly but this should be communicated if so, and if the babysitter feels this is not what she is there to do then she should communicate this too. I wouldn't say cleaning of the house at all, no.

I think that depends. If that’s something that is asked of you when you are first hired and you guys agree on it and it’s in your pay then yes but if upon being hired there is no discussion to always be a housekeeper and clean then no.
