My bf family is from a 3rd world country(Haiti ) , hes has a TPS status. He’s living paycheck to paycheck trying to make ends meet. Him and his sister are the only ones that over here in the USA and his sister has a husband and two kids.

His parents are separated and his father lives in the Bahamas.

2002 he left Haiti, went to the Bahamas to live with dad and hasn’t seen his mom since. 2009 came to America and been working what not.

He talks to his dad frequently , but his mom not so much.. whenever his mom calls it’s always for money... and she’ll call non stop until he sends some.. and even calls his sister to make him send some... the sister can’t send often cause she has a whole family.. but since he has no dependents she expects a lot.

See I had no problem with this.. but yesterday I asked him what his mom does for work back in Haiti. The setup for the country is different, but a lot of people make a living by being merchants and selling home made food goods or having little stores ... but he tells me she doesn’t work... she’s basically spends her days at church...

And I’m like seriously??? I thought that the money hes frequently sending was going towards like business expenses.. but no that’s her living income... which is ridiculous to me since her son can barely make it over here🙄🙄

And what’s even worse is some times she even borrows money from people... knowing very well she has no way of paying them back and then afterward tells him I borrowed money from a neighbor and I need you to send me money to pay them back....

The currency exchange is high.. like 200$ American dollars is like 18,000$ haitian gourde. So I can see why she’d be so dependent.. but once in a while is okay... but not like every other week.

I’m haitian as well.. so I understand the struggles.
