Killing Feral Cats in Australia

I just read an article about how Australia is going to start killing feral cats with poisoned sausage. I think this is absolutely awful! They want to kill the cats because they are not native to Australia and the cats are killing birds and reptiles.

Do you all believe this is the correct solution?

Is there an alternative?

What are your all’s thoughts on this?
