I have a question girls, I am really confuse. Do you ladies start counting your period the day you start getting a brownish or pink discharge or when you start spotting?

I ask my friend and she said she count the day of the discharge as day one of her period cycle. So in my case I counted my cycle the first day I spotted which is the 10th BUT my discharging started on the 8th
