Preferred format?

I'm buying some of my favorite books and I'm torn. Cost is the same from the used book store so all other things being equal, which do you prefer?

Paperback. I like to bend the book back as I read one handed

I tend to “lovingly destroy” my books. I like things that are worn and flexible and beat up. I take them with me in my bag so they get scratched and bent and messy. I tend to go for paperback because I always feel that hardcovers are supposed to stay pristine and I have an irrational fear of opening them too wide and damaging the spine. Hardcovers are heavier too so it makes traveling with them a lil more difficult.
Also, book jackets are the worst so even when I do buy hardcover I have to take the jacket off until I’m done reading it 🙄.

If they were the same price, I would get hardback. Usually I get paperback, but hardback lasts longer even if it does weigh more.

Paperback because I like to read in small spaces, while traveling, in bed. And I can’t fold a hardback plus it’s too heavy too lug around and expensive for no reason

I prefer paperback as it's easier to manipulate and its not as heavy so I can read and multitask with my baby or cooking or something. Hardcover will last longer but if you take good care of your paperbacks you will have them for a very long time as well.

Hardcover 😍. Nothing beats a hardcover book. I usually buy paperbacks because they're cheaper so it's always nice when I find an inexpensive hardcover.
