Why wait?

This might be an ignorant question but I’m actually confused.  The risk of miscarriage at 9 weeks is about 3%, at 12 weeks it’s about 1.5%.  Why do we need to wait til 12 weeks when it’s only a 1.5% difference?

No need to wait! Share the excitement! “Problems” can occur up to delivery if we’re being realistic. No need to censor yourself to please a “social norm”. ☺️

I was almost 9 weeks when I had my ultrasound and they told me my risk of miscarriage was now close to 1%. I think people typically wait until “12 weeks” because that used to be the more common time to get that first ultrasound.

Yeah I just heard it's to just wait till you're at the 2nd trimester mark. But being pregnant after a miscarriage this entire time is low-key stressful lol my first ultrasound was perfect so I should relax but I'm anxious for next appointment.

I think people tend to wait because most people have their first scan at 12 weeks (in the Uk anyway) so they wait till they’ve had the scan. But yeah I don’t know why really...if you wanna tell people at any point that’s up to you! ☺️ xxx

My first scan isn’t until 11 weeks so I’m waiting till at least then. But I’m sure we will tell family and close friends before that.

The reason I heard was that most miscarriages happen in the first trimester, so some people will wait until week 12 or 13 and be safely in the second trimester. I hadn’t heard those stats though! Very interesting
