Why so much controversy about CD1?

OB says CD1 is first day of spotting. RE says first day of normal flow. 🙄 what is the correct answer and why?? I need some reasoning.

Answer

I go by first day of flow because spotting can start and stop for a few days. First day of flow is most accurate when dating if you get pregnant.
