College advice?

I'll be a freshman in college next year. Do you have any advice or anything you wish your younger self had known about college?

I wish I hadn’t kept my HS boyfriend. We broke up at be end of freshmen year, but he was such a drag. I was ready to make new friends and find new hobbies and interests. All he wanted to do was sit in his dorm and drink with other people we went to high school with. Lame sauce. It’s great to keep your HS friends, but don’t keep one who drag you down.

I just finished my freshman year in college and honestly I had the time of my life! College, in my opinion, is much better than high school. 
Try to step out of your comfort zone. Meet new people and try new things (safely, obviously!). But also don’t neglect your academics. I got good grades in HS and didn’t get the best grades in college because I was expecting it to be easy... it’s not. Especially if you’re going to a bigger university or something. There are nights where I went out and partied or hung out with friends when I should’ve been studying instead and my grades reflected that. You’re going to have to put a lot more time into learning the material. Even though classes are shorter and not every day, you’re going to have to put a lot more time into studying by yourself. It’s just basically like you’re on your own - they give you the material and then it’s up to you to memorize/understand it. That’s one thing to expect. 
As for the party scene, idk if you’re going to go party or anything, but frat parties and house parties can be super fun! Just make sure you go with a group of friends that you trust and make sure you guys don’t lose each other throughout the night. Don’t drink any drinks you didn’t make yourself. Don’t accept any from anyone. If you’re cautious like that, they are super fun and you’ll make great memories! 
Just enjoy your time there. It’ll fly by! It seems like just yesterday I was moving in and now I’ve finished my freshman year. Make the most of it and remember to focus on school. It’s normal to be nervous/anxious about starting college. Everything will fall into place. ☺️ Good luck and have fun!
