About to try first IUI, and no +ve ovulation result? HELP

I'm so frustrated! I've used ovulation predictor kits many many times and have never had a problem. I have regular cycles (things change slightly due to Letrozole now) and usually ovulate between days 13-19. 
Of course the first month we are slated to try for an 
IUI
 ... I never got a positive ovulation test!! I had super bad cramps on CD16 on the correct side that my U/S showed I had 2 enlarged follicles. Went for blood work BC I continued getting negatives ... And sure enough - I had already ovulated and couldn't do the 
IUI
 this month. I'm devastated!
Can I ask for tips on how ppl are testing? My RE says second void of the day, and before noon, is the best pee. Tips?

My doc moved my follicle check up to day 11. I went in on day 12 and my follicles looked a little gray, like they were already releasing an egg. With my experience, the doctors will change anything you ask them to within reason. Get an early ultrasound, it could make a huge difference.

Can they do a trigger shot instead of waiting for a positive test? I use wondfos and test in the afternoon or evening.

ya my ultrasound was actually in CD 12, and my 2 follicles were looking good. I guess I'll have have to try again with just the ovulation test kits and if I miss it again then I'll have to do the more invasive route (daily blood work and every 2nd day ultrasounds). 
Difficult to do as I'm a nurse and work shift work! 🙄

....and with the trigger, they can stimulate ovulation as soon as the follicle is big enough. this helps make sure you time the IUI right.

my dr started doing ultrasounds CD 12 to check follicle growth bc my cycles changed a bit on letrozole as well. one cycle i was ready to trigger onCD 12, one cycle not til CD 13, but if i’d been waiting for positive OPKs i would’ve missed my chance too. i’d ask your dr about doing an ultrasound CD 14 or earlier.
