PERIOD VERY CONFRONTING PICTURE

My period has blood has never look as bad as this (until like the last days of spotting). This is day one and the first pad I’ve used for this months cycle. It is dark brown and my cramps are unbearable, I’ve been in bed in a ball all morning unable to move but drinking lots of water. Someone give some insight on why this could be?!
