My birth story-FTM

Milagirl

Due date -05/09, Delivery date -05/07

Had membrane sweep done on the 6th. My doc said that I had a good chance it would work since the baby was engaged and low, I was dilated 2cm /70%effaced since 36 weeks (just no progress since then) and also that I was feeling mild contractions for a week. Doc also warned me that it might failed as well. After reading so many stories here and the fact that my due date was getting so close, I didn’t think I was gonna go in labor anytime soon. I also asked the hospital to schedule me to get induced on the following week if I didn’t have her by my due date. In the morning of 7th (roughly after 16 hrs of membrane sweep) I woke up with period cramps. I didn’t even think I was in labor because the mild contractions I was feeling days before weren’t like period cramps. They were different than Braxton Hicks and period cramps. So I thought I was having cramps because of membrane sweep. I started pacing out because they got painful and felt like I had to poop. Every time I tried to poop or pee, it hurt worse. Called my husband who was 45 min away to get home. My husband asked me if I was feeling contractions. My respond was “HOW THE F AM I SUPPOSED TO KNOW? ITS NOT THAT I HAD BABY BEFORE??🤬” 😂 I was in so much pain. Finally got to the hospital at 6:15am. My water broke at the parking lot. I was 4cm dilated and 100%effaced. The hospital didn’t even have room ready for me. I asked the nurse if she could give me some kind of pain medicine. Apparently they had nothing available right then. They had to be ordered 🤦🏽‍♀️ I was like WTF! I knew my labor was going to be short because I was very active the entire pregnancy. I kept begging for pain medicine and told nurse I was feeling lot of pressure down there. Next time she checked I was almost 7cm dilated still no pain medicine 😩 They couldn’t wait for housekeeping to clean the room. Nurses ended up making room ready for me as soon as they could. I was moved to actual delivery room. Finally I got epidural and I was 8cm dilated. When the epidural started kicking in I was already 10 cm. Doc let me relax for 15-20 minutes and I was ready to push her. She was born at 8:47 am. After 2.5 hours of active labor, weight 7Ib6oz.

To the ladies who are still waiting to deliver their babies:

It will happen when you least expect it. You all are so close and you all made it this far 🤗. Enjoy these last few days/weeks of pregnancy. It will be over before you know it 😊

To the ladies who had babies natural way (without epidural) :

More power to you! Not sure how y’all are alive. I thought I was dying 😂

To the ladies who are planning to have babies natural way (without epidural):

Good Luck to you because you gonna need it!

To the ladies who are not sure( like I was):

Go with the flow, listen to your body and ask for one if it’s too much! Even though my labor was so short, I couldn’t enjoy the process because I was in so much pain !

Thank you all the mommas for sharing your stories and helping out many FTM like me 🤗
