I reside in New York. My significant others mother is absolutely crazy controlling. I am currently pregnant and I do not want her around this child. I talked with her this morning and simply asked for respect and healthy boundaries. Instead of agreeing and trying to get along, she threatened to take me to court for grandparents rights. I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with this? She smokes marijuana daily and mentally isn't a very stable person. So the thought of someone forcing me to leave my baby alone with her makes me sick. Everything that I have read says she could take me, but she would have to prove she had a previous relationship with the child. The child hasn't been born yet. And then she would have to prove that the child not seeing her would cause mental and physical harm. I need advice and help on this. This is a high risk pregnancy and it hasn't been easy. I'm so stressed and the thought of that woman being alone with my baby makes my skin crawl.
