Crib mattress pad? SIDS risk??

I have a water resistant mattress and I just added this cover to it. I put the sheet on top and now it just seems like it’s puffy rather than a hard/flat, smooth crib mattress. Is it suppose to feel like that for air flow? Idk I’m about to just trust my mom gut and take it off. Maybe save for when baby isn’t a baby anymore!

If it didnt come with the crib mattress, you prob shouldnt put it. You can obviously do what u want, but any extra sleep positioners, mattress pads, blankets etc can cause suffocation and increase the risk for SIDS.

Baby mattresses that are already water proof are going to be fine, so I wouldn’t add anything. Babies do all sorts of weird things when they sleep that doesn’t seem comfortable, so while adults may prefer a softer bed, babies don’t need that.

I'd be concerned about anything that adds puffiness.  This is what I used.  Can't even tell it's on there under the sheet.

Did the pad say it was approved for safe sleep? We used a crib mattress that was waterproof itself so a pad wasn’t necessary.
