Transgender pronouns question ?

Why would a transgender person specifically want to be referred to as “they/them” ? ... why not he or she (the gender they have chosen to be) ?
I really hope this question didn’t come across as offensive I am just trying to educate myself, I don’t know much about the topic but want to be respectful to everyone, thanks

Because they don't feel like they are 100% a girl or 100% a guy. They're non-binary. They/them pronouns also come a lot more naturally to people than pronouns like xe/xer (another one that some people use). We use the singular they/them all the time without even thinking about it when we don't know someone's gender. Like "who left their pencil here?"  Or "if you see someone who looks sad, smile at them." So it makes sense that people who don't feel like "he" or "she" fits would be "they"

Because they don’t feel that he/she or him/her feels right. They/them are good pronouns for people who are non-binary or who are still figuring it out.
