Nanny job from hell
To preface this I live in Canada so laws and rules may be different regarding taxes.
Holy fuck. So I’ve been nannying for a single mom since August, and the job just keeps getting worse. She had asked for a commitment, so I am supposed to stay until August, but I don’t know if I can make it. Along with multiple other issues, she isn’t paying me legally which I was unaware of until I want and got my taxes done. My accountant told me how she was paying me was illegal on her part, and that the way she was doing it screwed me over for the amount I had to pay. I had to pay $700 CPP, half of which should’ve been paid by her. I discussed it with her and told her she needed to pay me legitimately starting May 1st, and I took an 8 day leave, assuming she would figure out how to legally pay me in that time. She just paid me and she wasn’t taking any taxes still and didn’t give me a pay stub. I messaged her about it right away, and now she’s not responding.
I feel like I should just quit, but I’ll be screwed over again next year when I do my taxes, and I just moved out with my BF so I really need a job. I have savings that I could live off of if needed, but I’m trying to find a replacement job first. What do I do?! Should I report her to CRA? I just feel so disrespected because all I want is to be paid fairly and legally and she’s ignoring that.
I know no one asked for an update but I just need to vent. I just talked to her in person when I came to work, and she refuses to pay me legally because she says it’s too expensive. I told her I would work til the end of the month. I’m going to call CRA and discuss with them what I should do, but I will probably end up reporting her only because she told me of some future plans to hire someone else and i don’t think it’s fair to screw over nannies. Most of us are you g, and for a lot of us it would be the first job they have, they probably won’t know better either. Nannies work so hard and barely make any money, especially when the employer is just out to get it as cheaply as possible. Nannies are expensive, don’t hire one unless you’re prepared for that.
