Baby losing too much weight

Baby weighed 9lbs 1oz at birth. At his 24 hour visit he was 8lbs 6oz, and at his 3 day visit he was 8lbs 8oz. So far, all normal and fine.

Then at his 10 day visit he was 8lbs 2oz! I was so shocked. I made an effort to track when I was feeding him and for how long etc but when the midwife came back on day 12 he’d lost another oz, down to 8lbs 1oz! That’s a pound lost from birth weight!

I’m beside myself. My milk came in on day 3 and he’s been nursing every 2-3 hours like normal since then. I can hear him swallowing. I have to use a shield on one side bc my one nipple is completely flat but I did for my DS1 as well and he gained weight fine. I’m taking fenugreek and blessed thistle and trying to pump after feedings but I’m so upset I keep crying all the time. I nursed DS1 for 22 mos. we only stopped 6 mos ago bc I was pregnant. I don’t know what else to do. If he doesn’t start gaining properly the midwife is going to start pushing formula and I don’t want to use formula unless I absolutely have to bc I don’t want him to fill up on that and my supply drop and not be able to nurse him. I loved it so much with DS1 and it broke my heart to stop then. My only consolation was knowing I had a new baby to nurse coming soon.

I guess I just ... idk... need support? Similar stories where your baby gained back their weight and you went on to nurse for months and months? I feel like I’m failing this kid and he isn’t even two weeks old yet It’s hitting me really hard 😔
