Traditions are crazy !?!?

Today my hubby is taking our LO to get her ears pierced.  Our tradition is to do it when they are babies but it’s still making me crazy. 
Some people don’t understand why we pierce so early.  It goes back a long long time for sentiment reasons. 
What is a tradition you have for your babies that other cultures might not know about?

For me, my father is Hispanic and mom is white. My dad was used to the girls in his family getting it done as a baby and my mom was adamant that I would get them done if I asked for them when I'm older.
Now that I'm in my 30s, I had a some first (so no ear piercing lol), but a girl on the way and I've decided to wait until she's older. For me it was a 10th birthday present and felt like a right of passage almost?
Everyone is different and we have to learn to respect each other's cultural norms! Just make sure you go to an actual piercing artist, I've seen so many babies ears botched by the people at Claire's and other mall podiums like that.
