Breast milk equivalent to water or what?

My 4w old weighs around 11.5lbs ( haven’t had him weighed lately). He’s been taking about 3-5oz every couple hrs. Sometimes 6oz when it’s breast milk. At 6:30pm he took 8 oz of breast milk in a 30m period. Then he STILL acted hungry, rooting around and such. So now he’s working on 10 oz!!!! Is there something wrong with my breast milk? It’s like there’s not much substance to it or something. I don’t get it!

Are you breast and formula feeding? If so that may be why, it is harder for babies to digest formula so it keeps them fuller for longer. Whereas it is easier for them to digest breast milk therefore usually needing more or going shorter periods between feeds.

From my understanding there are two types of breastmilk. The foremilk comes out first and has nutrients but isn't as filling but really hydrating. Hind milk is more nutrient rich so helps them go longer between feedings. This is just from my own research and I am not an expert.

Mine is cluster feeding right now at 5 weeks...very normal. She goes through a few hours a day where she wants to nurse every 45 minutes or so.

Ever have those days that you’re just crazy hungry and you keep snacking all day?  Or days that you just don’t have much of an appetite? Babies have the same...  as long as baby is growing well (if he’s 11 lbs at 4 weeks he probably is!) and having good wet diapers you’re fine.
