Do I have to strip?

Okay so my diapers have been smelling kind of funky. Not like ammonia but not good. They always smell fine after drying but I feel like not really clean. I had been using all free and clear liquid because I thought it was safe. I read it’s not good on fluff love. So I bought tide free and clear liquid. Do I have to strip or can I just do a few really good washes? I’ve only been cloth diapering for a few months and off and on so they have probably been washed less than 10 times. No leaking whatsoever. Please help! I want to avoid stripping if I can.

Go to the cloth diaper science or fluff love university websites it sounds like you need to troubleshoot your wash routine. If it doesn’t have an ammonia smell don’t strip! To me it sounds like you aren’t getting the soap all the way out which can cause stink so you might just need to do a second rinse option! Both websites have great info on washers and you can find your specific washer and see what the wash routine should look like so this can help you pinpoint what part is going wrong! Good luck 👍🏼

I haven’t had to strip my diapers yet. Since you already bought different detergent I say try that and see how clean they are after. You could use extra detergent and do an extra rinse if that’s not part of your routine. If they’re still funky in a couple weeks, think about taking the next step.

I don’t strip anymore. I personally think it wrecked my first set of diapers.
I think what the problem might actually be is that you’re using a liquid detergent. Liquid doesn’t mix in and spread around quite the same as a powder. I use tide original powder.
Are you using a top load washer or front load? Front load...try adding a wet towel to the load to increase the weight and make the washer add water, more water used is gonna help.

You’ll need to strip since you’ve been using it for likely more than 10 washes. After a strip make sure you sanitize and then you’ll be good to go. Have you tested your water hardness because that will also cause issues if you use untreated water.
