I'm very much the planner type person so I'm almost done with the planning the first birthday party. However, I need some help.

We will be moving into a new house 8 days before my son's first birthday. On top of that the child has EVERY already. He is the first baby in a long time so he is spoiled to the max. With us moving and he having so much stuff I was considering saying no gifts or something like the poem below.

My question is does it really work? Have you done this for your kids or been to a party where this was done? Do people listen and not bring a gift?
