I’m a very logical person, analytical, practical, and think things through. Including relationships. I don’t believe I could ever fall for someone in the”love at first sight” way. It’s just not for me. That’s why I started online dating to analyze and weed out the douche bags before actually having to encounter them. It worked very well for me, it was a very useful system.
Well I spotted one man, 20, my age. His profile was clean cut, minimal and we had similar outdoor interests. So the app matched us (OKCupid 😂) and I started messaging him. He was a soldier, infantry. He was cool, we got along great. Good humor. Well he went to the field for 2 weeks (an outdoor training exercise in the Army) and I got busy and didn’t message him for many days. He had his phone the whole time but I just didn’t think about it. Well it turns out he was really bummed out I wasn’t texting and he thought I didn’t like him anymore 😂🤦🏻‍♀️
I texted him after he’d been in the field for a while and he immediately texted back and we continued to get along great. When he got back from the field we went on a date and seriously, we were fast friends. By the end of the night we really didn’t want to say goodbye so I asked if he wanted to stop by the store with me because I had to pick some stuff up. He agreed and we just browsed the store casually for a while, cracking jokes about stupid stuff then said goodnight and went home. We texted every day after that.
That’s how me met, there’s a lot more funny stuff and sad stuff and romantic things that happened the following 4 years that brought us to our marriage. But the reason I knew he was the one by the time we had been dating for a year, is because he truly was my best friend. It took no time at all for us to bond and build a lasting friendship. We went through a lot and he was always there for me. I realized after being together a year that wow I loved this guy and if I ever lost him I’d be absolutely crushed. I don’t believe I can ever love someone the way I love him. We’ve had our ups and downs but I’m not lying when I say we’ve never once yelled at each other. We always work it out and never go to bed angry. He’s my best friend.

I disagree with the previous comment.  Having that best friend bond where you always want to be together is great but that doesn’t mean they’re the one, chances are that feeling will fade over the years.
I knew my partner was the one because no matter how hard things get we still only want each other.  My partner is autistic and is just mentally all over the place, I put in a lot of work helping take care of his mental health, making appointments, dealing with his meltdowns and having to pick up the slack because he just can’t do the same things as me.  All while taking care of our toddler, being pregnant, and going to school full time.
And he has chosen to stick with me knowing I’ve had alcohol problems in the past, that I have mental health issues too, that I hate working and he has to provide for us because I can’t work without getting extremely depressed.
That’s how I know.  And because we’re the only person the other can stand being around longer than an hour.  We hate people.

I had an actual moment. We went to his brother's wedding and he was standing there next to him all handsome.  I heard their vows and realized I felt just like they did about him. I cried a little sne surprisingly he proposed that night after the wedding 🥰
