Breastfeeding jaundice

So upset. I feel like I have failed my baby boy. Doctor confirmed this morning my little man has a touch of jaundice and we cant go home today. I'm hoping he can be released either late tonight or tomorrow morning after they check him out again. I miss my other son! This will be day 4 away from him. 😭😭

Jaundice in newborns is very common. Their livers don’t begin to filter until days 5-7. The more you feed the more bowel movements he will have, which is what he needs to help treat the jaundice, as well as the phototherapy lights.

My baby had jaundice too. They told me to nurse him a lot and that would help.

That's what I'm trying and hoping it works

My daughter was jaundice for like the first week or two. My milk didn’t come in that much at the hospital. She wrecked my nipples from first latch and they were all cracked/bloody so it was painful for me to nurse. They introduced a pump to get some colostrum and give my nipples a rest on day 2 just a couple sessions. They discharged me/ her and did not do a light or anything since it was so high but told me to nurse. When I went to the pediatrician she was still jaundice and gave me formula to supplement to clear it out. I felt like a failure because I really didn’t want to use formula. I ended up giving her only a couple bottles of the formula but then my milk came in full force. The hardest thing was to get her to wake to feed since she was so sleepy.
