Water Broke Before Contractions
Last week I had my 36 week appointment. My doctor told me I was dilated 1/2 a cm. I thought great I have time. Wrong. I was due June 8th.
On May 21 I woke up in the middle of the night to wet underwear and sheets. I thought I peed myself as I had been waking up several times a night to go and sometimes felt like I might not make it. I proceeded to the toilet and actually peed. When I looked into the water there was pink. I panicked and woke up my husband. When we got to labor and delivery they determined it was my water! I was shocked because I had absolutely no pain and not a single contraction. I was dilated to 1.
I had contractions a couple hours later but nothing worse than period cramps. Finally I was put on pitocin. My contractions became stronger and I got my epidural. Next thing I know I'm at 9cm with almost no pain. When it came time to push I was done in around 10 minutes. My 37 weeker weighed in at 6lbs 5oz. He gave me such an easy delivery. No need to be cut/stitched. I was so impressed with my labor nurse and couldn't have gotten through it so effortlessly without her.
This is my second child and my first experience was much different. I had contractions that were very painful for hours before my water broke. I didnt get the epidural till I was already dilated to 8 cm. I had to be cut and stitched. It made me anxious for this delivery. I can only hope if I ever give birth again I get such a great medical team by my side.
