Do you recommend Mirena?

Question

Soooo I went to my 34 week appointment today and was asked what my plan for birth control would be once I delivered... and when I said I wasn’t sure but had just figured I’d take the pill, I was told that it was not recommended for me and had the mirena really pushed on me, I have a lot of mixed feelings on an IUD and just wanted some opinions/feedback! Also I have a personal history of hypertension and I also have PCOS and struggled for 2.5 years to even get pregnant this time with our first.

I enjoyed it because I didn't have to remember to take pills. I did have some spotting for a month or after it was placed. Nearly never had a period tbe 4 years I kept it.
It did make loosing weight very very hard for me. Nearly impossible. Once I had it removed I lost 90 pounds un about 18 months or less. 
Unlike the pill I also had far less mood swings and felt more "stable" than the ups and downs from having periods etc. Also no headaches like I get on the pill.
Just remember to check for it's strings etc so you can be sure it doesn't leave it's place.

I had two mirenas and I loved them. I had my first put in when I was 18 and then the next one following the first one. I took the second one out at the 3 year mark and got pregnant in less than 3 months from removal. This is my first pregnancy and working in the OB world I highly recommend it. It’s great to just not worry about taking a pill every day. I was the unfortunate ones who still got a period but it was very light. And it may actually help with your PCOS to help regulate your hormones.

I loved my mirena. I had it for 5 years and was able to get pregnant within 2 months of having it removed.  My periods disappeared within the first year and it was great not having to worry about taking the pill everyday. I also got pregnant on the pill with my first, so I won't be going back to that. I tried nuvaring, but it always came out during sex. I tried the depo shot, and gained a LOT of weight. After this baby i'm either getting Kyleena (slightly smaller and has a lower hormone dose, good for 5 years) or Skyla (much smaller and lowest hormone dose of the 3 iuds, good for 3 years), not sure which one yet.

Mirena was what I was using before we were TTC. I’m 90% sure it was the reason why we miscarried 3x after even though I had it out for at least 6 months prior

I guess I should specify my concerns... I went a year without a cycle when my husband and I first got married, it was finally regular prior to becoming pregnant which was a total surprise because after 2.5 years of trying and not using contraceptives we had given up. I definitely would want to (unpopular opinion here) continue having a cycle once baby is here. I also want to work on my weight which was already too high prior to pregnancy and though I have managed not to gain anything my entire pregnancy, I definitely don’t want to maintain my current weight after pregnancy. We also ideally would like to start trying for a second, now that we know it’s possible for us, once he’s 12-18 months old. I just worry mirena wouldn’t be ideal for me due to these concerns 🤷🏻‍♀️ but I’m definitely open to someone changing my mind!

I liked the Mirena better than the depo shot. I still had some moodiness but it was generally concentrated to one time per month almost like a false period. I never did bleed. My husband could occasionally feel the strings which was quite uncomfortable for him.

I got the mirena after my first son 2014 i had it removed 2016  it got stuck i had about 3 mcs so i went on the pill n now imn34 wks w my last kid i will ask for mirena  i didnt have n e bad experience beong on it my periods stoped which was good i didnt gain weight  if u dont want mirena theres other options like the nexplanon for the arm but if u want the pill they cant deny u the pill

I had it for 5 years successfully. It did take us almost 2 years to conceive after it was removed. Not sure if that had anything to do with it. I liked it.

I feel like I was in your boat. I have PCOS and didnt want to be on anything after my son. It took us nearly 2 years to conceive him. So I didnt take any form of birth control. We still needed the help of fertility meds to get pregnant again this time. My plan for birth control after this July baby is my husband getting a vasectomy. I didnt like the pill and dont see the need for it.

My body rejected it I was having constant lower backaches I thought I was just getting old😂went in for my annual and found out they were contractions my body pushed it out the doctor just pulled it out with no pain
