Irregular periods.

So I had my baby just about 6 months ago. I started my birth control middle of February. First couple of months my period came once a month now last month and half came Every few weeks. And lasts for over a week. Now the doctor never told me to keep taking my pills even if period started so I didn’t take them. But a voice in my head last week told me to keep taking them even if I started. So my period that I’m still on for a week now is very small amounts was very light all period. Any ideas ? They told me it could take till July/August to be normal again lol. Not breastfeeding my daughter is on formula. Thank you
