Anyone have HG and have a home IV or picc line?

My hypermesis is so bad this pregnancy the dr ordered me at home IV service for a few days then wants to put in a picc line for fluids.. anyone have this before or what is your experience? Extremely anxious and nervous esp about the picc line. Im 12 weeks tomorrow

As a nurse I have many patients who are very happy with their picc lines. Sounds scary, but after a while you won’t even think about it.

My sister had multiple picc lines in both of her HG pregnancies. They saved her life and were the only way she got any sort or nourishment. The one thing to read up on and be aware of is blood clots, but they aren’t super common and the picc line will definitely help you!!

A friend with HG had this and it was the only thing that finally helped a bit. She’s totally needle phobic and was able to do it. Good luck!

Think of it as a very long IV line. You will have full range of motion, you will need to keep the area clean and dry and make sure the dressing stays intact this will decrease any risk for infection. They will have someone doing the IV fluids so they will make sure your line is good every time they look at it. No stress, this will help you and baby stay hydrated since you get so sick!
