Pregnant and dealing with Shingles

Ari • Mom of 2 beautiful girls ♥️

If any of you read my post ranting about my husband, I’m about to take back everything loooool this pregnancy has by far been the worst ever.

A lot of my friends are pregnant and due around the same time as me and would constantly rant how hard it’s been.... i totally empathize with them because pregnancy is not easy..... but when you end up getting shingles while pregnant, that’s a WHOLE different story. For 2 days I thought I was dealing with severe back pain from pregnancy. Over time it got worse and I called my OB and she said that it’s just round ligament pain and if it didn’t go away then I had to go to the ER.

So my husband drives us all to the ER and it’s a good 45 minutes away.... we not only go once, but twice(Monday and Tuesday). Both times they take me to L&D and obviously because my body is under a lot of stress and pain I’m contracting....they give me an IV because I’m severely dehydrated and after I start feeling a bit better. Tuesday I started getting a rash on my stomach but identify it as PUPPP (hormonal rash pregnant woman may experience).

By Wednesday the pain is a lot worse and it feels like my spine is being snapped in a number of places along with shoulder blade pain. So in order to get some sort of relief we go see a chiropractor... I was desperate to figure out what was going on since I kept waking up every hour screaming and crying in agonizing pain....the chiropractor did help, but like my ER visit, it was only temporary relief.... it wasn’t until I saw my OB that she diagnosed me with Shingles.... by then the virus progressed so far that 48 hours wasn’t enough for the prescription to save me from the pain that I experienced the next 2 days.

Guys, I was completely bedridden; I couldn’t shower because standing was painful, I couldn’t walk on my own, go to the bathroom on my own. My husband woke up every 15-25 minutes to me screaming in pain because I needed to be rotated, my patches changed, or to help me go to the bathroom...I’d hate for anyone to experience this... especially while pregnant because you basically can’t take anything for the pain except Tylenol, and Tylenol doesn’t do ANYTHING 😭😭😭

My husband took 2 weeks off from work (usually it’s really difficult to take time off in the military) and thank god his command was extremely understanding of the situation. He’s been caring for my daughter and I everyday and has taken on all of the house work.... I’m no longer contagious but the nerve pain that comes along with shingles is still there 😔 I’ve been feeling useless and defeated but he’s reassured me that all I need to do is rest and focus on getting better. I TAKE BACK EVERYTHING 😭😭😭 he even upgraded my engagement ring to the ring he knows I’ve been wanting! Best. Birthday/Mother’s Day/Get Well Soon gift EVER!
