Should I be worried about language?

I just read an article from what to expect that said most kids don’t actually talk until they’re 2. My son says only about 5 words right now and I’m kind of worried. Is this normal? When I went to the doctors appointment for him at 18 months they gave me a questionnaire asking if he was saying 10-15 words. We try and teach him words but he just doesn’t say them. We read to him every night and every time he brings us a book which is countless times a day. What else can I do?

Our pedi said by 18 months they should be able to completely understand basic instruction and what we are telling her. The ability to tell us what she needs will happen somewhat overnight between 16-24 months. Some days her babble is a little decisive and others it sounds like nonsense lol
But if I give her a 2 step instruction (pick up the toy and bring it to me or shut the door and go sit down) she’s able to understand and follow.

I think just keep talking and reading,
I swear sometimes my son doesn’t get anything I try to teach him to say, then one day he has says 2-3 new words. He definitely catches on to “fun” words better than others. ( we taught him to say boom when he falls and he loves it) He was slow to begin with with words but has caught on the last few months.

My son can say about 8 words but understands so so much and just babbles 90% of the time. He can’t put two words together yet. We’re currently trying to teach him please and Thankyou but no luck yet

Keep talking and reading. Any info you get is just a baseline. Kids dont follow schedules. They do what they want when they want. My daughter says about 8 words clearly and the rest is straight babble and pointing. As long as he is communicating his wants and needs, either through words, babbles, or pointing, he is fine.
