Is anyone getting newborn pictures taken? I can’t believe how expensive they are and some businesses won’t give me pricing unless I meet with them. I’m thinking about just buying a nice camera and doing them myself.

I found a really good local photographer with a studio. I emailed her for pricing and what I was looking for, she offered a ‘bump to baby’ package that included maternity, newborn and 1 year for $800. It required a $50 deposit at time of booking, and 3 separate payments to be made before each session. It was too good to pass up 🙌

I can confirm a nice camera will cost more than newborn photography and you probably won’t know how to use it.
A nice camera isn’t point and shoot. 
Photographers have families to feed too. 
You wouldn’t negotiate getting work done on your car with a mechanic would you? You either get it done or don’t. 
As a photographer I can confirm, that like a mechanic, I have paid thousands for schooling and equipment. Not to mention training and workshops on how to safely handle someone else’s newborn. Did you know we also have to use contracts and insure our business?
There’s a reason photography is expensive when you want to use an established professional.
If you can’t afford it maybe try to find a beginner who needs to build their portfolio who can do it cheap. I personally wouldn’t let an untrained person handle my newborn but it’s an option.

I am! I feel like they are only in that brand new window for sich a short amount of time and you never get that back!
(I’m also a newborn photographer with a pretty well known studio in our town) - with that being said-  there are so many different packages/and ways that we package our session fees/products/digitals.  Of course look around and find someone you are super comfortable with!
Most of my newborn clients continue on with me years after their babies are newborn.  It’s a special relationship/friendship that becomes awesome!
With that being said- some people tend to forget that these things are a luxury and not a necessity.  You can get nice pictures- maybe a smaller package at a lower price if you need to, and many also offer payment plans as well.

Found mine locally through fb. She did our family photos. She’s only charging me $300 for a newborn in studio session plus a mini maternity with all photos on a disc. Try posting on fb to see if friends can lead you to any good priced options.

Also Check with your hospital some do maternity pics before you leave the hospital. They are also a bit pricey but with my first daughter they were cute considering they were done in the hospital. 
Here’s one. I also have ones with my boyfriends hands holding her and other poses.  
This time around I did find a photographer to do newborn pics because I want my bow 4 year old to be included in her baby sisters pictures.

Thankfully I’m a photographer but they are so ridiculously priced but so worth it. You will never regret getting photos of your baby but you may regret not having them done! 😭♥️
