Birth Control for Acne

Hey guys, so I'm 20 years old and I've had cystic acne since I was probably 11/12. I've tried everything topical for the last 8 years to try and clear it up and finally made the decision to go to the doctor and try birth control. The reason I decided this too was because I also have crazy irregular periods and so I'm thinking I can kill two birds with one stone...hopefully. My only fear is that Yaz or Yazmin is most the one I'll be giving and I've heard about some crazy side effects from it and just terrible experiences in general. Has anyone taken those who can share their experience or taken some other form of birth control for acne?

I took birth control for acne and it got worse for me! But I know a lot of people it works for. If your acne is really bad I’d try to see if Accutane is an option, I’d heard a lot of success stories about how it entirely gets rid of it

Accutane is definitely not something I want to take. I've read to many studies on it and it changes your skin for life, whatever that means for each person. That sounds like a commitment I don't want to take at 20 😂

The pill i take cleared up my skin. Im almost 18. Struggled with cystic acne & rosacea myself and it’s almost clear and i started the pill may 12th of this year :) I’m very happy and never felt more confident. I’m on a low dose pill (no estrogen in it) and some sucky symptoms like bloating and a little bit of nausea but other than that i’m pretty happy!!

That's great to here (well other than the symptoms, I hope that gets easier on you!) Thanks for sharing 😊

I was only birth control for 2 yrs in the past and then again for 3 months this year. I’ve also dealt with very bad acne since a young age and personally, I didn’t notice my acne get better or worse while on birth control. Overall it stayed the same but I stopped getting more breakouts around my period.
