Does gestational diabetes go away after birth?

Today I have an appointment to learn how to inject  insulin. 
I was a bit shocked that I have diabetes. Mine is genetic and not diet/ weight related.
Did you experience this? Did it go away after the birth of your baby?

GD is unpredictable. No one in my family ever had it. I am extremely healthy and in shape. I ended up with it. They test you after you have the baby just to make sure all is good. You are forever at higher risk of type 2 diabetes, but that’s it.

Depends on how well you manage it and your genes really. They say that having Gestational diabetes increases your chances of developing type 2 diabetes within a year of giving birth. Especially if you havent lost the weight and or made healthy lifestyle changes when needed

Sometimes I knew someone who got it during pregnancy and had to continue with insulin afterwards

They still don’t know what causes type 1 diabetes in general so GD is still really unknown. I have a friend who got it during her first pregnancy and it never went away. She still lives with it now that her kids are graduating high school. I have another friend who got GD with her first and it sort of went away after the baby came, more like type 2 but then got GD again with her second child and it looks like it isn’t going away now.
Everyone is different. I can only understand from the outside how difficult it can be. My little sister has type 1 diabetes since age 10. But don’t worry! Do your best to stay on top of it and you’ll be perfectly fine.
