New & Discouraged Cup User

Sydney

I’m a 16 year old virgin and I have a relatively high cervix. I use tampons and I’ve been looking forward to making the switch to the cup as I no longer want to deal with the stresses of period care. After much research, I decided to purchase the DivaCup Model 1. Due to my research, I felt confident that I would have it easy. I knew that there would be a learning curve, but I didn’t realize how hard it would be to figure it out. Being on my period leaves my hips, lower back, and abdomen in agonizing pain. When the cup was in my vagina, it left me in pain worse than what I would normally experience. I got very discouraged after a few minutes of this pain and removed the cup. Removal was difficult; I pinched the cup at the base but the seal wouldn’t break. I had to “bear down” and break the seal at the rim of the cup. I think that the cup was correctly inserted as there was blood in the cup after removal, but when I inserted a tampon after the cup removal, the tampon went in at a weird angle; which has me thinking that the cup was in the wrong place after all. I’m nervous to purchase another cup as I don’t think that I’ve given the DivaCup enough of a chance to benefit me. However, if there is a cup that you would recommend, I’d love to hear your suggestions! Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
