Traveling on a plane

Anna

Hi All,

We are traveling with an 11 week old on a four hour plane ride. Any tips or tricks for getting through the airport smoothly as well as the plane ride?

Thank you

Strollers and car seats check as baggage for free on most (if not all) airlines. If you prefer to have them inside the airport, you can gate-check them while boarding the plane, it just takes a little longer to wait for those items while you’re getting off the plane. I do recommend getting one of the airline bags to protect the car seat if you are checking it as baggage. Keeps it clean in the underbelly of the plane. Also, if you’re formula feeding and need water to mix, they will let you bring that through security as long as you explain that it is for the baby. Try to feed the baby as you’re taking off, the swallowing motion will help relieve pressure from their ears popping. Also, because you have an infant, i believe that qualifies you as one of those people that “needs more time” boarding the plane and they may let you board sooner.

You can also bring breast milk if you pump! They don’t make you dump it! I was worried about that but you can bring it on the plane. It was surprisingly easy to fly with our baby. It was hard in that we had to pack so much extra stuff but easy in that he was really good and slept most of the time. Good luck!

Flew with baby today! We actually bought him his own seat which worked out great!!! He had a safe spot for takeoff and landing and mommy and daddy could have their hands free for a little! I second almost everything every other commenter has said and agree it was quite easy. Our little guy barely cried at all.We did a diaper change at the seat with him on my lap on the changing pad and my husband doing the diaper. This worked much better then one person trying to change him in the bathroom. Also, bring a smaller diaper bag for at the seat, that you way everything is easily accessible. I’m nursing and even expressed three ounces using the Hakka on the flight. It was awesome. The white noise put our little one right to sleep, so that was a bonus! He had two naps on a flight from Phoenix to Maryland.
