I Want More Communication

So I’m new to the bdsm world and I’m currently in training to be a sub. My Dom doesn’t live nearby and works a lot, so we don’t get to see each other often and most of our communication is through text only. However, he barely talks to me and it’s kind of aggravating. There are plenty of opportunities for him to text me when he’s not working, but he chooses not to. I would like to be able to talk to him more and maybe even talk over the phone instead of just text, but he seems to go MIA for hours on end. Is this a normal thing for D/s relationships?
