Here’s what I’ve learned- If you don’t pgs and it works, that’s wonderful. Unfortunately if it doesn’t work, you pretty much start at ground 0 since the dr wont know if the failure was due to the embryo or your uterus. We opted not to test the first cycle (due to my age, 31) and my first transfer resulted in a miscarriage at 8 weeks due to a chromosome abnormality. Pretty much not testing and then miscarrying set me back 6 months and I just had to do a whole new retrieval. we pgs tested this time. We transfer again in June and praying this sticks!!

We asked our fertility specialist about pgs testing and she said for our issue, she didn’t think it was necessary unless the first round didn’t work. Testing is not covered by our health insurance. So we opted out. If our insurance covered it, we definitely would have

We didn’t do PGS because I was 33 at time of retrieval and there are so many conflicting studies about the validity of the test. I was terrified of them discarding perfectly good embryos that came back “abnormal.” If it had been covered by insurance and I was over 35 I might’ve done it but it’s just such a new thing I’m not sure it would be worth the risk of an inaccurate result. They pluck the cells to test from the outer part of the embryo, which becomes the placenta and not the baby, so it’s possible it’s not an accurate representation of the fetus itself.
