IVF follicle count vs how many eggs?

Hi all, for anyone that had a low follicle count going into <a href="https://glowing.com/glow-fertility-program">IVF</a>, were you able to get more eggs?

Can follicles be “hiding” and not seen on a u/s?

Can more catch up during stims? I’m on day 4.

They didn’t tell me my follicle count before going into my egg retrieval, however after my  retrieval the nurse told me that they only thought they were going to get 8, but ended retrieving 14. I know that ultrasounds provide them with a decent picture of how many follicles are in your ovaries, but you can really only see the follicles that are in the position that the ultrasound wand is scanning. Think of your ovary like a bunch of grapes, you can’t see the grapes behind the ones that are in front.

Ur follicles can have more than 1 in them. So the numbers will always vary.

I went into my retrieval thinking we were only going to get between 6-8 eggs. They ended up retrieving 18. It was an unexpected surprise and we were very lucky.

My first round they thought I’d get abut 11 and got 16 (12 fertilized, but it was a bust). Our second round they expected 5 and I got 7 (this round was great 14w twins 😍😍, and all made it to blast). Some follicles can be full of fluid (I was told average is 80% have eggs rest empty). Also quantity doesn’t necessarily mean quality - at least it didn’t for me I was 31 and 32 and had an AMH of 1.93 and 1.89 for reference. Good luck!!

I had my mini IVF retrieval today and only got 5

It went both ways for me. First retrieval I thought I would get 6 and only got 2. The other 4 were empty. The second retrieval I thought I would only have 2, but they retrieved 3 mature (one follicle contained an extra bonus egg) and then 3 additional were retrieved but they were not mature.

Same happend to me. Went to ER thinking we will get 9 or 10 eggs(as my doc always count) and we were able to retrieve 23. Big shock for me but extremly happy.

I believe I had 12 follicles but they only retrieved 9 eggs. That said 8 of them were mature and fertilized and 5 made it to day 5. I'm currently 10w+3 from that cycle. It can be disappointing with fewer follicles/eggs but quality > quantity. I've also heard of some women having more eggs than follicles, it is possible, just not my personal experience. Good luck!!!

I went in thinking I had 8-9 mature follicles, some of which were getting in the side of too big so I felt they were at risk of not being correct. Ended up with 17 eggs collected! We were sort of shocked. 14 were mature. 6 were PGS normal. So really I feel anything can happen! I was slow to respond to the medicine and was kept on stims for a few additional days.
