Low temps and weird period

My bbt stayed low this last cycle. In the 96 degree range. My period was then 5 days late! On the 6th day, my temp shot up exactly 1.02 degrees (to 97.64) than the previous day and I got my period in the afternoon. The next day though, my temp was 96.87 and now it's back down to the 96.60's. My period has also discolored. Brown and very light. Usually my period is heavy for two days, medium for a few more days, then a day or two of the brown. This is all so abnormal. Does anyone have a clue what's going on?
