Crazy Birth

Our little Wade was born May 10 at 35 weeks. Nothing went as planned. I was being monitored for high blood pressure and had to take it multiple times a day. May 8, around 8pm, I did my nightly check and it was running in the 160's. We headed to the labor & delivery ER. I was instantly admitted and placed on a 48 hour magnesium drip and a diet of ice chips. I was given multiple medications and told that I was close to having a seizure. I also received two steroid shots for baby. At the end of the first 24 hours, they did a repeat urine protein count. My numbers has doubled within a short time frame. I was diagnosed with severe preeclampsia and my doctor said we needed to deliver right away. Within 2 hours we were in the OR. Wade was born at 4:30 pm via a perfect c-section. You could hear him crying before the doctor even pulled him out. He weighed 4 lbs 9 oz. He was immediately taken to NICU because of his size and some brain abnormalities that we already expected. I was put on another 12 hours of magnesium before I was able to go see him. It took 7 days to stabilize my blood pressure with 3 different medications, so I could go home. I've never been so scared in my life, but had an excellent care team. Wade spent 24 days in the NICU, undergoing a few tests and learning how to eat. He was on a feeding tube for about 20 days to make sure he got enough calories. We found out that he has a deletion on his 6th chromosome and a little extra piece on his 16th chromosome. Only the future will tell what this means for him. As for now, he has gained a pound from his birth weight and doesn't seem to be having any developmental issues. He's the perfect little guy.
