Should I get a promise ring? Opinions please!

I'm 16 and my boyfriend asked me the other day how i would feel if he got me a promise ring. We've been dating for almost a year. He wants to get married when we're 21 or 22 but I'm thinking more around 25 if we're still together. So too early for promises of marriage? I just need help cause I don't know what to think. I have commitment issues and am scared and excited but I also think I would love to be married to him because I love him so much. Please help!!!

I was in same boat as you. Same age and all. I didn’t want him promise me marriage. I actually wanted him promise stay by my side even if we weren’t together or promise love me even when we weren’t together. Promise ring don’t always have mean marriage. You can always put different meaning behind. Maybe you should make a pro and con list of why don’t and do want promise ring. See what turns out most and make your choice from there

Honestly, it seems a little early in life to make those commitments because if something happens and you don't end up together then it makes it that much more painful. But go with your gut!

i got a promise ring when i was 16 as well. he and i eventually broke up because he was way too controlling. i feel like promise rings give a false sense of control and “you’re mine”

My boyfriend got me a promise ring when I was 15, and now I’m almost 18…I love it because it’s a nice little reminder of him every time I look at my hand. If you don’t want a ring maybe ask him for something in its place like a necklace or bracelet.
