Question about progesterone.

So I am four and a half weeks pregnant after three early losses. My doctor never tested my progesterone for those losses and hasn’t for this pregnancy but wants me on progesterone cream anyways just in case. I read about birth defects, especially in boys and now I’m so scared to take it. Any advice? Did anyone have a boy with birth defects? :///
