Will any of be getting a membrane sweep if your doctor is willing

Question

With my last 2 pregnancies, two separate doctors, both performed a membrane sweep at 38 weeks. Reason being they believed the baby was getting too large for me. My current doctor says he’s willing to do a sweep at 38 weeks. I do feel guilty because i know this will help force me into labor and not truly be the start of a natural labor. What are your thoughts ladies?

It doesn’t force labor. It literally has a 50/50 chance of working. If baby and your body are ready anyways, then it’ll work.  If not, then you’ll have contractions and be uncomfortable but nothing else will really happen. 
It has a higher chance of being successful if you’re 2+ CM dilated, so I personally will be saying no until I reach that point, and then maybe.

With my first it did nothing but give me some mild cramping for a few hours after. Here in the UK you can be given several sweeps and still not go into labour. They offer you them in the hope it might kickstart things but unfortunately doesn't always work.

I had one last pregnancy- about 41 weeks and contractions started about 12 hrs later. I wouldn’t do one unless I was past fullterm (40 weeks). They tend to work better when your body is ready.

My first baby was 10lbs 4oz, and they gave me a sweep and induction. Being forced into labour when I wasn’t ready resulted in a C-section.
This baby is also measuring on the larger side, midwife has no concerns about my pelvis not being wide enough and recommends that I wait until labour naturally starts.

But I also don’t feel guilty about getting things started sooner. My birth plan is if she isn’t here by due date on her own we cut her out! You’re full term at 38 weeks, membrane sweeps only work if your body is actually ready... personally I don’t want to go through an induction and then a C so we are just going straight to the C if she’s not budged by EDD... but that’s a personal choice. By 38 weeks, I am all for doing whatever I can to get this parasite (and hat what they are... fetuses are parasites... I’m sure I will love mine) out of me and get my body bacccccccckkkkkkkk!

I'm totally willing to do it if I reach that point! With my first they did a membrane sweep on my due date at 9am, by 12pm I was having contractions and at 5pm I was at the hospital in labor. I know its certainly no guarantee but I'll always give it a shot!
